Helping to clear energy debt
We’ve recently helped a Southampton council tenant who had an unexpected debt of more than £1,000 on their energy account.
Our client had also been told their supplier would be increasing their direct debit amount to just under £500, which was unaffordable.
After a bit of investigation – checking the client’s bills and meter readings – we discovered that the client’s supplier hadn’t spotted an error where the units were recorded in the wrong measurement. This resulted in a large debt on the client’s bill.
Our energy adviser was able to provide the correct readings and help the client understand more about how gas and electricity units are calculated.
The client’s bill was revised and the account ended up in £150 credit alongside the direct debits reducing to less than £30.
