Keeping cool at home
We’re here to help our clients feel comfortable all year round – and particularly during spells of extreme temperatures.
Whilst we can’t control the weather, we can help you learn how to keep yourself and your home cool during a heatwave.
Please contact us on 0800 804 8601 if you’d like personalised advice over the phone. We serve the areas of Hampshire, Southampton and Portsmouth.
How to keep your home cool
☀️ Take note of where the sun comes in at different times of the day. Close curtains or blinds to block the sunlight and stop it heating your home.
☀️ On very hot days, when it’s hotter outside than inside, close your windows during the day. This might seem counterintuitive, but it will stop hot air filling up your home.
☀️ If it’s safe to do so, open the windows, curtains and blinds in the evening and early morning when the air is cooler. Opening doors between rooms will help create a through draught.
☀️ If you’re using an electric fan, place it in front of an open window in the evening to push cooler air into the room.
☀️ At night, keep your sleeping area well ventilated. Night cooling is important because it allows the body to recuperate.
☀️ If you have a garden, remember that trees and shrubs will provide natural cooling. Hard or artificial surfaces will store heat and contribute to hotter nights.
