Are You Eligible for the Warm Home Discount?

What is the Warm Home Discount?

The Warm Home Discount is a scheme providing eligible households with a £140 electricity bill discount over the winter period. This discount is available to credit and pre-payment customers, so long as your supplier is part of the scheme and you meet their eligibility criteria. Some suppliers begin accepting applications as early as June, although most open in the autumn. It’s worth applying early to ensure you get it.

Who is eligible?

Core Group

Householders who began receiving Guaranteed Pension Credit on or before a specified date in July (this varies from year-to-year) are part of the Core Group. They are automatically eligible and don’t need to apply.

If you are eligible and switch energy supplier after the July cut-off date, you should still expect the £140 from your previous supplier.

If you were awarded Guaranteed Pension Credit after that date in July, you will need to apply to your supplier for the Warm Home Discount.

Broader Group

Householders who don’t receive Guaranteed Pension Credit may still be eligible for the discount as part of the Broader Group. Eligibility criteria varies between energy suppliers. These are usually based on low income and a vulnerability in the household, e.g., disability or child under 5. You can check the individual eligibility criteria with your energy supplier or you can contact us.

Householders who meet the Broader Group criteria will need to apply for the Warm Home Discount every year. If you apply but then decide to switch supplier before you receive the Warm Home Discount, you will need to reapply with your new supplier.

Which suppliers are part of the scheme?

Energy suppliers with more than 150,000 customers must offer the Warm Home Discount to the Core Group. Smaller supplier may offer the discount as well. Check the government website to find out if your supplier is on the list. Please note that the supplier may not offer it to the Broader Group. Even if you received the discount with one supplier, you may not receive it when switching to a different supplier. This is because the Broad Group criteria varies between suppliers. Ask for help if you’re affected.

How to apply?

Apply directly with your energy supplier, which may be online, by phone or by post. Their contact details are on their websites.

Park Homes Warm Home Discount

The Warm Home Discount is also available to park home residents who met the eligibility criteria. Apply through the Park Homes Warm Home Discount Scheme with Charis Grants.
